Dennis Gao President and CFO

Dennis Gao serves as President and CFO of Avatar Integrated Systems,Inc. Prior to Avatar, he held finance and operations executive positions at several high tech companies including ET Healthcare, Integrated Memory Logic (acquired by MaxLinear), DemandTec (acquired by IBM) and E-Tek Dynamics (acquired by JDS Uniphase). He was instrumental in numerous financings via 2 IPOs, venture funds and commercial loans. He holds MBA in finance from Indiana University Bloomington.

Ping San Tzeng, Ph.D Chief Technical Officer

Dr. Tzeng brings over 18 years of EDA experience with him to Avatar. Dr. Tzeng was one of the original developers of ArcCellXO, developed at ArcSys in 1992. He was the key architect in the evolution of ArcCell in the industry known place and route systems such as Aquarius, Apollo and Astro. Dr. Tzeng continued to work and enhance his routing technology at ArcSys, Avant! and Synopsys (ArcSys formed Avant!, Avant! was aquired by Synopsys in 2002). He holds the prestigious honor of Avant! Fellow and Synopsys Fellow. Prior to ArcSys, he held positions at Cadence Design and Quickturn Design Systems. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from U.C., Berkeley.

Inki Hong, Ph.D Vice President, R&D

Hong leads the R&D development for Avatar's Aprisa and Apogee products. Before joining Avatar, he had been a technology leader in synthesis and physical design in the field of EDA for over 20 years and has worked as a key R&D leader at Synopsys and Cadence Design Systems.

At Cadence, Hong served as Senior Group Director of R&D where he led the development of GigaOpt from initiation and invented several key optimization techniques that made GigaOpt differentiating technologies for market leading Innovus implementation systems. Most recently, he was the Chief Architect of RTL2GDSII flow at Synopsys.

Hong holds a M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Ph.D in Computer Science from University of California, Los Angeles. He has written over 25 EDA research papers and served on the technical program committees for ISPD and ICCAD conferences.


Edward Tsuei Vice President Sales, US

Dr. Edward Tsuei brings more than 20 years of global sales leadership in the electronics industry to Avatar. For over two decades, he has held various sales and engineering positions at ANSYS, Cadence Design Systems, Broadcom, Sun Microsystems and Intel. Throughout his career, Tsuei led the adoption of novel, high-value tools and solutions in electronic design automation (EDA), IC design, packaging and PCB system design. Tsuei holds a Master of Science in mechanical engineering and Ph.D. in electrical engineering, both from the University of Arizona.

Willis Chang Vice President Sales, Asia-Pacific

Dr. Willis Chang has spent much of his 20 year career in the EDA and IC design industry. Chang has been instrumental in accelerating sales growth in Asia for several leading EDA companies where he held positions as the General Manager of Cadence Taiwan office. Prior to Cadence, he was the General Manager of the Avant! Taiwan office. Prior to joining Avatar, he led global sales for ALI Corporation. Besides his extensive industry knowledge, Chang has an entrepreneurial spirit, establishing two companies on LCD TV system and SoC. Chang holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Clemson University, South Carolina, and a B.S. in Physics from National Cheng-Kung University, Taiwan.


Alpesh Kothari Vice President, India

Kothari is responsible for defining place and route tool solutions for sub-7nm technology nodes and deployment for Avatar's Aprisa and Apogee solutions at leading semiconductor design companies. Prior to joining Avatar, Kothari worked in various applications engineering roles at ATopTech and Synopsys. He has 20 years of physical design experience supporting various EDA tools at numerous semiconductor companies. Kothari’s area of expertise includes low power design and he has published several publications in that domain. Kothari holds a Master’s degree in Electronics Design and Technology from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Daniel Maung Vice President, Application Engineering, US and Japan

Maung has served as vice president, applications engineering for Avatar in the US and Japan since 2014. Prior to Avatar, Maung held leadership positions in application engineering at Magma Design Automation from the company’s early days through its successful IPO in 2001. Previously in his career, Maung was a lead applications engineer at Cadence Design Systems, an IC designer at Intel, and a researcher at the Hewlett-Packard Labs. Maung received B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (MIT).


Chi Ping Hsu, Ph.D Executive Adviser

Chi-Ping Hsu is the Executive Adviser at Avatar Integrated Systems. Hsu is a pioneer in the EDA industry, leading technology breakthroughs in place & route, physical synthesis, logic synthesis, logic emulation, advanced low-power solution, mixed-signal, advanced node design, and 3DIC packaging

Prior to joining Avatar, Hsu was chief strategy officer for EDA products and technologies and senior vice president of RD for all EDA products at Cadence. In addition to his role as chief strategy officer for EDA products and technologies, Hsu also advised Cadence CEO on matters that require a global EDA view and coherency across business group strategies. Hsu was the visionary behind the Cadence Low Power Solution and the primary driver of Power Forward, the industry’s leading initiative organization focused on enabling the development of power-efficient ICs and electronic systems.

Prior to joining Cadence in 2003, Hsu served as president and chief operating officer of Get2Chip Inc. (acquired by Cadence 2003) and before that held executive management positions at Avant! Corp. (acquired by Synopsys 2001) where he was responsible for corporate and technology strategy, product development and marketing.

Hsu has been an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has participated as an invited speaker and session chair for numerous IEEE conferences since 1986. Hsu holds a Ph.D. degree in EECS from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BSEE degree from National Taiwan University.
